Cooki is a mobile app inspired by my love of designing UI and my frustration with cluttered, text-heavy cooking apps.
My Vision: an intuitive, visually-driven recipe experience where users can browse, save, and follow recipes step by step, without losing their place or appetite.
Streamline the cooking process with a step-by-step mode that’s interactive and easy to follow (even with messy hands).
Make food the star using mouthwatering photography, big category icons, and a minimal, distraction-free interface.
Focus on usability by making every button accessible, every flow logical, and keeping the recipe visible at all times.
Inspiration & Research
I started by scrolling through a myriad of cooking apps, noticing the same problems: too much text, ads everywhere, confusing ingredient lists, and no visual “flow” for the recipe process. I wanted something you could prop up in the kitchen and follow with confidence.
Mapping User Flow
I mapped out the user journey in Figma: from sign-in, to browsing dishes by cuisine or diet, to opening a recipe and following steps. My focus was on keeping the experience “one thumb simple"; no hunting for instructions or losing your spot.
Visual Design
Home Screen: Showcases bold, circular dish images by category (pasta, vegan, dessert, etc.) for instant browsing.
Step Mode: Each instruction is on its own clean “card,” with a progress bar and simple navigation.
Ingredient Mode: Lets users quickly scan what they need, check substitutions, and toggle back to steps.
Profile: Personal touches to make users feel at home.
